AOAC Sub-Saharan Section - Africa Digital Analytical Methods Repository

Sourcebranding is pleased to announce its association with AOAC Sub-Saharan Section. As we will be unveiling the Creation of a digital platform built for the exchange of analytical methods. The development and design which was commissioned and overseen by Dr Owen Fraser, Ph.D. Section President (Switzerland).

The development of the Africa Digital Analytical Methods Repository by Sourcebranding symbolizes a great millstone in the work that we aim to promote in the digital space as a digital agency.

4-8 November 2019, at the NH Lord Charles Hotel in Somerset West, Cape Town.

Programme
The theme of the meeting, ‘Harmonisation of Testing Standards: critical to the free trade of safe foods in Africa’, speaks directly to the current challenges with testing the wide diversity of foods traded and consumed within our region. The programme focuses attention on building on the fundamentals of testing, analytical methods alignment and harmonisation as well as delves into some present and emerging food safety issues in order to identify some of our most critical analytical methods development needs for our region. Additionally, launching two key initiatives, the Young Scientists Development Programme and the Laboratory Mentorship Programme, both focused on building capacity and improving performance in testing.

The platform objectives
• Develop a digital platform to facilitate the sharing of analytical methods
• Compare methods used with the international official methods
• Identify gaps with the analytical methods used
• Determine improvement actions e.g. capacity building, method development, etc

Digital analytical methods sharing platform

Who are the users?
The Regulatory authorities and food control bodies within the scientific industry, Contract Research Labs
And Academia.

What are the benefits?
• Enables transparency of the methods laboratories use to quantify specific analytes in specific matrices
• Allows comparison of analytical methods and their performance
• Facilitate alignment and harmonisation of analytical methods
• Allows the community to identify analytical methods development and capacity building needs
• Facilitates consensus around whether an analytical method is fit for purpose

How does it work?
User start off by registering, once registered and approved, they are able input/upload methods onto the Africa Digital Analytical Methods Repository. The uploaded method can then be searched and compared against other local or international method. It is important to note that all uploaded data are stored on a separate database which houses all information submitted or searched.

Analytical method data input

– Method reference
– Method title
– Analyte
– Matrix
– Method performance

Upload supporting information e.g. method validation file, etc.

Analytical method search
Search by:
– Method reference
– Method title
– Analyte
– Matrix
– Method performance
– Lab name
– Country
– Commodity group
– Analyte group
